You will learn

Self-service business intelligence (BI) is an approach to data analytics that enables business users to access and work with corporate data even if they do not have a background in statistical analysis, BI or machine learning. With this tool you can load and transform your data for analysis and you can create reports and dashboards that you can share with your organization to support data-driven decisions.

To develop solutions with Microsoft Power BI you need to know about different types of data models, and you need to know how to create expressions with DAX to enhance your data models. Finally you need to know how to design reports presenting data in a user friendly and intuitive way.

Data modelling and querying data - 2 days
In this module you learn how to query relational databases using T-SQL. You learn about different database designs and you learn how to query data from multiple tables, and you learn how to filter data and use aggregate functions.

  • Simple queries with T-SQL
  • Filtering data
  • Querying multiple tables
  • Calculated columns

Power BI - 3 days
In this module you learn how to use applications and services in Power BI. You learn how to create and design data models using the Star Schema Model for efficient data analysis. You will learn to create reports and analyze data with Power BI Desktop. You learn how to prepare and transform data from different data sources with Power Query and you learn how to publish your reports to the Power BI Cloud Service and use these for dashboards that you can share in your organization for valuable insights and decisions.

  • Creating data models with Power BI Desktop
  • Introduction to the Star Schema Model
  • Transforming and cleaning data with Power Query
  • Creating calculated columns and measures using DAX
  • Designing reports and formatting visuals
  • Reports with drill through and bookmarks
  • Publishing reports to the Power BI Cloud Service
  • Refreshing data in the Power BI Cloud Service
  • Creating and sharing dashboards
  • Access to reports and dashboards in Power BI Cloud Service

Advanced DAX - 2 days
In this module you learn how to use DAX for advanced calculations and data models. You will learn the concept of evaluation context and you will learn the difference between row -and filter context and you will learn how to use context transition. You will learn how to use numerous DAX functions to work with tables and time intelligence.

  • The function CALCULATE
  • Filter functions
  • DAX and variables
  • Calculated tables
